Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
